Salve! Missed a post yesterday, so here’s my latest effort at poetry – “Nerves.” I should have more on Laurel Emperor by tonight so they’ll be a second blog post!
Enjoy
Nerves
By Daniel Ottalini
Stomach churning, burning, waiting
feeling like a songbird
for the sun to rise
desperate for the change of guard
yearning for a pause
because
of
nerves
you can’t stop the feeling
in your gut
will it matter?
Will it stop?
Will it come out on top?
Why do others not understand
how it feels to
feel everything
and nothing
and not be able to tell
watching the perfect day, perfect week
perfect year slip away
into the grey clouds of a winter day
It may be great
may be not
right now all you know is
your whole body
is in revolt
like an unbridled colt
involuntarily you start to think of changes and what if’s
and moving
but instead
force a smile
take a deep breath
and dive.
