Project 27 – Medic

New Poem for Project 27 – Medic.

Greetings! It’s been a while since I added to Project 27 – definitely been a bit slammed with finishing Laurel Emperor. But here’s the latest entry. As always, constructive criticisms or questions are always welcome. This isn’t really for anyone else, rather just for me.

Medic
By Daniel Ottalini
Scalpel in one hand
Sutures in another
Trying hard to hold it back together
Graced with the power to cut
Or heal
To hurt and harm or
Build up and repair
Hearts broken and torn
Scattered dreams lost and shorn
Ripped from the children they once belonged to

Is this what its come to?
This, a classroom more like a psych ward
A school more like a prison
A teacher more like a battlefield medic
Putting children back together with whatever is at hand.
Tape, glue, leftover twine
Safety scissors, stickers

Every day an emergency
Every day a fire
Every day
Exhaustion

Every morning
Kevlar on, tools cleaned
Another typical day
Making a difference
