The Reason
You’re the reason
I don’t come to school
I freeze up
I act out
I can’t be cool
I say things I don’t mean
and do things I can’t say
But it isn’t good. No, not in any single way.
At first it was simply
a text
or two
Maybe three
No, definitely four
And I followed your Instagram account
And Facebook feed too
And when you told me politely to stop
I asked why
Your reasons weren’t good enough
You didn’t even
Try
To understand me
I just
Really like you
You make me better than myself
Why can’t you see that me doing this
Is simply a cry for help?
But no.
Your reject burns like a trash can fire
Smokey and smelly and
full of thingsI’d rather not mention.
But all of this
Has nothing to do with me
Because you’re the reason
I choose to stay.
And come back to class for one more day
