Writing the Introduction to an Alternate History “Textbook”

Salve!

Today I’m busy writing the introduction to my alternate history “history textbook’ novella. My, that’s a mouthful. Read on, let’s figure out what I mean.

Got a complicated novel to plan? Or perhaps you want to help your Players keep track of all the people they’ve met and who they’re connected to? Well, put away the journal (for this reason at least) and use Kumu instead!

Author Blog Record Month & A Free Book!

IMG_2670
Here’s a picture of our temporary companion enjoying his belly rubs.

Thanks to you, I’ve hit nearly 900 views this month alone! You guys are the best!

As usual, my slightly humorous, now very useful, 50 Ways to Kill a Character and his partner, 50 Ways to Kill a Character Part II drive a lot of traffic to the blog, but I’m pleasantly surprised and happy to see more people visiting for Dungeon and Dragons and the Steam Empire Chronicles resources that I’ve been creating and writing about.

But really, thanks so much! If you want to thank me more, go and download my first novel – Brass Legionnaire – for FREE from Smashwords during the Give Back Sale! Also remember, if you like it, rate it and leave a review! It means the world to authors when you share what you like!

Best of Editing – March, 2020

It has been a busy couple of days working on revising and editing The Last Gladiator! Here’s a few of the better edits (or perhaps, needed edits/revisions). The big take aways for me, as usual are…

  1. Passive Voice Vs Active Voice
  2. Show don’t tell
  3. Massive (one of my beta readers noticed this, I did a find/replace search, and ended up with 22 uses of the word in just 39,000 words. Eek!

Read on to find some more not so elegant pieces of writing of mine.

Year of Accountability – 3/30-4/5

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to the formatters The Last Gladiator goes!

This week has been a whirlwind of work trying to get the Last Gladiator finished and ready. I’m excited to get it sent off, but I really want to make sure it is the best it can be. So I would say I have accomplished my goal for this week! I’m still making the last few changes and got some really good feedback from my beta readers. I’m sort of kicking myself for not giving myself a lot of time to put in their feedback, but then I remember that I control the deadlines and can slow things down as I like!

So that’s it! This week I’m going to be busy getting settled in to doing digital distance learning. I want to make sure I’m giving myself time to get familiar and comfortable with the technology, which fortunately I do have some practice with in the last few years.

Goals for the week: None.

See you next week!

School is coming, so What’s Next?

School is coming back for us teachers here in Maryland! My county’s continuity of learning plan is being activated, which means less time to do awesome blog posts and writing, but just in time for me to send the Last Gladiator off to the format people!

So what’s next?

Simple,

  1. Prepare and finish the outline for a Brief History of Rome and New Caesaria. This is my next project.
  2. Make a list for people interested in doing a book tour for The Last Gladiator – I’d love to connect with more authors and am more than willing to do a blog trade or guest post!
  3. Plan for the forthcoming Anthology of my novellas coming sometime next winter or spring – depending on time of course!

That’s it so far! If you’re interested in joining a book tour, let me know! And remember to subscribe and follow me here, and on Facebook and twitter!

Ciao!

Time to Edit – The Last Gladiator

Editing Time on the Last Gladiator! We’re so close to the end now!

Time to edit my latest novella you say? That works for me!

This is just a quick post to share how work on the Last Gladiator is going. The actual writing is done, and I’m really pleased by the novella. The current word count is roughly 36,000, which is 1k more than I originally planned, so not too shabby! Otherwise, here’s a picture of me enjoying my birthday cards from earlier this week.

Story Map of the Steam Empire Chronicles

Here’s a simple story map of the Entire Steam Empire Chronicles!

Hi all,

I realized that I’ve been missing a useful tool for all the newcomers to the Steam Empire Chronicles! It’s a story map!

Reading Order - Steam Empire Chronicles

Obviously, when I update it with the still in progress novella, it will fit beautifully into this. Where does the Last Gladiator fit? It’s a prequel that I think is best read AFTER you read all the other novels and novellas!
