Salve! Congratulations to the blog, and major thanks to you, the readers of this blog, for your inspiration! To celebrate, here’s a poem called Belief. I wrote it and planned to share it later, but now seems an apt choice for this to be shared. Remember to subscribe and follow along on my writing journey! C&C always welcome!
Belief
By Daniel Ottalini
I am the son of a thousand bedtime stories
the daughter of a hundred locks of curled hair
the descendant of fairy tales and ‘hood tales
and comic books
I am the effervescent struggle upwards
the strain in your muscles
the answer
waiting
on the tip of your tongue
I am the shuddering pounding
of your heart
right before
the kiss
I am the last hug your mother gave you
and the first handshake from your boss
the quiet whimper of your newborn
I am
the certain knowledge that
this year will be different
absolutely
positively
different
because I will make it so
I am inside you
outside you
and all about you
I am every word your teachers ever said
and every one you wished they hadn’t
But
I only exist
if you allow me.
