Greetings! Today we’re going to check in on my progress for my next novel – a completely new work of mine in a different world & universe from the Steam Empire Chronicles. The current working title of this novel is “The Loop Road” which might give a bit of a clue for you! Read on to find out more.

So as is often the case for me, setting a goal isn’t very helpful unless there is some insane deadline to back it up. Anddddd thus I’ve had to make a deadline. Naturally I’ve also made it more difficult for myself by doubling up on both personal and professional goals this spring. So. Here’s the goal for my Young Adult/Middle Grade novel.
Goal: By the end of May, I will have the entire novel ‘The Loop Road’ done, including cover art & formatting with approximately 40-50,000 words.
Current progress: Roughly 20,000 words (so I’m almost 2/5 of the way there!)
I’m honestly thinking of going the Kickstarter route again for this book to help both promote it and to get the book out on time. I’ve had pretty good luck with kickstarter’s in the past, and as a self-published author, any press is good press. So here’s your treat! An early snippet of this WIP
“This path was set down for you. Others have trodden in, but now the direction is yours to decide.”
The girl placed a tiny hand on Lyria’s cheek, the touch warm and comforting. “Fear not. In the end, you will make a decision. The world turns on decisions made by all of us. One thread, one tether, weaving into another.” A tangled skein of threads appeared before her, and she sat down on the ground, the land around her lifting up to support her in a moss covered chair.
“Wait… I know you!” The girl smiled at her, full of mirth and childlike glee.
“I hoped you would. Not like I gave you a million hints or anything like that. But for now, it is time for breakfast.” Lyria wanted to ask more questions, but the dreamworld shimmered like morning mist. “Remember, the threads of fate are woven by the choices we make. Trust yourself, and you will find the way.”
All in all, an approachable goal. One that I think I should accomplish in time to deliver a brand new book for this fall’s renaissance festival.
