Time to Edit – The Last Gladiator

Editing Time on the Last Gladiator! We’re so close to the end now!

Time to edit my latest novella you say? That works for me!

This is just a quick post to share how work on the Last Gladiator is going. The actual writing is done, and I’m really pleased by the novella. The current word count is roughly 36,000, which is 1k more than I originally planned, so not too shabby! Otherwise, here’s a picture of me enjoying my birthday cards from earlier this week.

Cover Reveal for the Last Gladiator

The-Last-Gladiator_800 Cover Reveal and Promo

It’s time! The next novella in the Steam Empire Chronicles is finished!

The Last Gladiator describes the complex transitions within the eternal city itself during the early years of Emperor Hadrian Appius’ rule. Following the exploits of Lucia Rhodanus Fortem, a female gladiator charged with a daunting task – defeat the first of the mechagladiators, or die trying. With characters and situations foreshadowing events in the Steam Empire Chronicles, you’ll want to pick up this novella! The Last Gladiator will be going on presale April 10th, 2020.

The Last Gladiator will be released on May 1st, 2020.

Mechagladiators – the Next Advancement in Gladiator Technology

What exactly is a mechagladiator? Only the most technological advancement in the arena in the 1800s! One of my most favorite steampunk elements in my novels, Mechagladiators are impressive and awesome to see in battle.

Year of Accountability: 3/8-3/14 Sickness & Soccer

It’s been a crazy week, but here’s a teaser of the new cover of The Last Gladiator to make your day!

Hi all,

It’s been a crazy week! Between starting soccer, and getting sick with a nasty bug that doesn’t want to let my voice go, it’s been a tricky time. Such is life! I’ve made only a little headway on projects due to convalescing. But I can announce that I’ll be ready to release the cover art for the Last Gladiator this upcoming week! So some progress!

I also realized that I never actually set a goal for this week! Eek!

So for this next wee, I want to get to the 35,000 word mark in the Last Gladiator. That’s my aimed end point, and I’d love to actually be able to get this thing done. Before that, here’s a teaser!

Year of Accountability 3/1-3/6

Hi all,

Let’s hear how accountable I was this week! What did I do?

Well,

I wrote a 4,000 word short story, so yay for being successful! I also published my latest D&D adventure – the Invasion of the Phandelver Valley. So lots got done this week. I ended up not submitting my short story. I felt it didn’t match the parameters of the request (a steampunk fairy tale) and instead was a more exploration with fantasy components.

So now I’ve got 4,000 words for A Brief History of New Caesaria 🙂

Progress Updated: The Last Gladiator

Hi all,

Here’s a sneak preview of a bit more of the Last Gladiator! Enjoy!

The twisting series of hallways soon lead to a massive banquet room. Huge columns, so large ten men couldn’t fit their arms around one, held up a steel and marble ceiling, plastered and decorated with beautiful paintings of angels and gods. Servants in the same red and black tunics and white trousers wove through the crowd, like fishing vessels plying their trade. A nibble from a guest here, a nibble there, and the vessels would return to port to reload their silver trays with tiny morsels of food.

“Will we not be dining in the triclinium?” She asked, partially confused. The Imperial house wouldn’t make the most powerful members of the realm eat on benches and tables like the ludus, would they? Mergovin chuckled.

“I don’t think so. It’s different when your banquet is for, oh, five hundred people.” Women in puffy dresses with a strangely military uniform cut glided by, men in formal tunics with layers of embroidery and jewelry escorting them with bent arm. The diversity of styles and people here was intense. She had expected just nobility, but looking around she could see at least twenty familiar faces from the newsrags, including prominent industrialists and merchants. For a moment, she saw a familiar face from Neapolis, but she quickly guided Mergovin in a different direction. She could not mistake that nose, that hairstyle, that scar…Lucia repressed a shudder of fear.

Who is Lucia seeing? What does it mean? We’ll have to find out later!

Accountability Posting – 2/9

Hi all,

Here’s another Year of Accountability posting! Last week’s goals were…

1.) Get to 27,000 words in the Last Gladiator.

2.) Continue to tweet daily about my books.

3.) Get into another event / convention & be confirmed for this!

How’d I do?

Well, I definitely didn’t tweet daily about my books, but I am continuing to tweet! I’ve managed to get to 27,000 words in the Last Gladiator, so that’s also awesome. I’m still waiting to be confirmed for the Gaithersburg Book Festival, but I was confirmed for the Maryland Renaissance Festival, so I’ll be attending at least one  event this year (Hurray!).

Otherwise, my new goal is to reach 30,000 this week. I really want to be able to focus on that and get it done.

In other news, I’ve upgraded my internet and such, so I’ll be able to do work and research must faster than I’ve been used to. Which is a benefit outside what I was expecting!

Goals:

  1. 30,000 words in The Last Gladiator
  2. Tweet Daily about the books

Last Gladiator Update!

24,000 words and going strong! Here’s a quick snippet! Got to reach that 27,000 goal by this weekend! Lots to do!

Year of Accountability – 1/13-1/20

The Year of Accountability rolls on. Now to take the next step! IronTributeIllo2_08_15_15

After the success of our last accountability post I’m really liking how the community helps make sure I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing!

Onto this week’s goals:

Goal: 24,000 Words in The Last Gladiator. This will put me roughly 2 weeks from an ETA on completing the novella.

Goal: Order cover art for The Last Gladiator.

Goal: Register for an event – The Gaithersburg Book Festival!

To be fair, this last one is sort of cheating, as I’ve already sent in the paperwork, but I’m still waiting to hear if I’ve secured a spot.

Ciao! Let’s get typing!
