What happens when a freelancer and an author work together.
Greetings and welcome back! It’s been a while, but I’m excited to restart this blog with a welcome to my new readers and old fans alike.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Daniel Ottalini, and I’m an author and teacher from Maryland. I have a book series called the Steam Empire Chronicles, with five novels and a short story anthology, as well as a host of Dungeons and Dragon RPG content available for free and for purchase.
The Steam Empire Chronicles is a series based on the question “What if Julius Caesar was never assassinated?” culminating in a Roman Empire still chugging along in (our timeline) of the 1850s or so. Airships, steam engines, mechanical warmachines, and yet, still togas and oppressively heavy royal outfits. The first novel of the series, Brass Legionnaire, is an EPIC (Electronic Publishing Industry Collective) award winner. All books are available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, and Smashwords for further distribution.
To help those of you wondering “what order should I read all your fantastic books?” See the handy chart below!
My Dungeons and Dragons Modules are mostly based on small side missions that fit perfectly into any campaign, although I’ve been gradually building out my World of Teraneath Resource book. You’ll find most of my work on DM’s Guild where you’ll have to search under “Ottalini” but you can also find my work here on the website.
The Maryland Renaissance Festival is my big event of the year. My book signing event at Page after Page is tomorrow, Sunday, September 29th. I’m looking forward to trying to swing more events in the coming years. In addition to books & role playing game modules, I also blog about my own D&D campaigns, some educational content, and anything else that comes to mind!
Follow my blog to get the most up to date information and word on new projects! (Photo from 2019, I have better outfits now!)
Exciting news everyone! I’ll be returning to the Maryland Renaissance Festival this fall. You’ll be able to get my alternate history steampunk series, as well as an exciting new TTRPG offering from things previously available only online. You won’t be able to get these anywhere else, so be sure to pick them up. I’ll have more details to come in the near future, but for now, be sure to book October 1st in your calendar to come and visit me to get your books signed! Of course, if you prefer to go any other weekend (and let’s be honest, if you’re like me, you want to go several weekends) you can always go and grab my book from then before or after that weekend as well!
Tickets go on sale in August, so be ready to grab them! You can get multi day passes now.
Today I’m going to recap my trip to the Maryland Renaissance Festival (in brief) and share some exciting news, as well as plans for some future blog posts!
As always, I loved visiting the Renaissance Festival. My hosts – the wonderful Vicki and Thomas at Page after Page – were gracious and supportive as always. Even in the rainy early October weather, we had great crowds and wonderful patrons coming by to purchase, get books signed, or just to chat! I had one of my best selling days so far, even with the poor weather, and I hope to be back next year.
While the blog has been a bit more inconsistent as of late, I’m hoping that with the school year settling down that I’ll be able to write some more. I have started planning my next novel – focusing on Corbus and his continuing story – as a stand alone (at this point) story arc. The goal is to get this story planned out by November so I can participate in NaNoWriMo for the (however many) year in a row. We’ll see where it goes!
Even though the winds may blow and the rain may fall, I’ll still be there to sign books for you all! Today’s book signing event at the Renaissance Festival in Crownville, MD, is on as scheduled. Wear your warm clothes and take a cloak, buy some hot mead or cider and come enjoy the day. All five of my novels, plus my anthology, will be on sale through Page after Page, the wonderful book store hosting me for today.
Make sure you click the link above to buy your ticket, as there are no tickets available at the door. While you’re there, check out all the amazing vendors and performers and give them a hearty Huzzah!
It’s been a busy time here in the Ottalini household, but I’m excited for things to settle down a bit with the school year starting, and even more pleased to announce my return to the Maryland Renaissance Festival this October 2nd, 2022! Thanks to the kind generosity of Page after Page, the preeminent (and only!) Bookstore at the festival, I’ll be signing copies of my novels and anthology, which you can pick up there in person!
Also feel free to chat with me about all the great Dungeons and Dragons modules I’ve been putting out this last year.
See me last year in my author get-up. I’ll hopefully have a few additional pieces of gear to wear this year! Make your reservations to visit the faire here, and come out and support me and my books (and have a cracking good time at one of the best events in the Mid Atlantic!)
If you can’t wait to get your copies, you can always order them in advance here!
Join me September 4th at the Maryland Renaissance Festival for a book signing!
Daniel Ottalini at 2019’s Renaissance Festival
You heard it right, I’ll be signing books at the Maryland Renaissance Festival all day on September 4th, 2021. Bring your book copy to get signed, or purchase your own through the local bookstore at the festival! Meet the author and chat about the world of the Steam Empire Chronicles, and hear more about my forthcoming anthology – Reflections of Brass!

A new print anthology of my virtual ebook novellas is coming soon!
You heard that right! In response to all your demands, I’ve decided to take all three of my amazing ebook novellas – Roma Aeronautica, Antioch Burns, and the Last Gladiator – and turn them into a printed anthology. While I don’t have any new material to include yet, I’ll sneak a few other tidbits into this anthology, such as a preview of the History of Rome and the New Caesarian Colonies. This anthology should be available this summer.
Speaking of Summer – Mark your calendars! I’ll be at the Maryland Renaissance Festival again this year (Tentatively, based on Maryland CoVID rules!). I’ll be at the Renaissance Festival to sign this newest anthology, plus all my other books, on Saturday, September 4th, 2021. I’ll be back with more information in the future!
Until then, remember to hit that subscribe button and follow this blog for more updates on this, my Dungeons and Dragons adventures & modules, and more!
